About

I'm Katie, an editor and stylist in New York.

What I can do for you: I specialize in content development that combines data and insights-driven strategy with brand-focused editorial and creative direction. I help you engage audiences with storytelling that brings products to life, pairing compelling imagery with cohesive copy that works across channels.

What this can look like:

  • Define 'content' and its strategic role across consumer touchpoints to help reach your business goals, whether that means growing an audience or evolving your brand positioning.

  • Conduct a competitive analysis and content audit to find what’s working, what’s not, and prioritize channels for your industry.

  • Create a framework that clearly describes what your brand talks about, where, and why, building a content ecosystem across owned, earned, and paid media that becomes more than the sum of its parts.

  • This can include establishing content pillars, launching new content franchises, or developing an integrated content calendar.

  • Supply teams with playbooks for each channel that turn competitive analysis, brand positioning, and consumer insights into inspiring and actionable guidelines that are consistent in concept but dynamic in expression.

  • Inject long-form SEO-focused content with a distinct brand point-of-view to drive organic search and traffic.

Where I've been: As a Senior Style Editor at Martha Stewart Living and Martha Stewart Weddings magazines, I conceptualized and styled stories in the lifestyle space, covering everything from home and entertaining to fashion and DIY. I fell in love with the entire process: from pitching fresh new ideas to perfecting the execution of the tiny details that make the story feel considered. It was a good thing.

In 2011 I co-founded For the Makers, a small but beloved digital platform for DIY supplies and tutorials. It was an early innovator in building an e-commerce experience around editorial content. I've spoken at South by Southwest Interactive about creating content that drives sales and community.

In 2015 I wrote Make a Statement: 25 Jewelry and Accessory Projects, and before that I designed and merchandised accessory collections for retailers like Anthropologie, Club Monaco, and Target.

Off the clock: I have a soft spot for radishes, Alex Katz paintings, vermouth, summer thunderstorms, last-minute get-togethers, and tinned fish. My scientist husband and I live Cobble Hill, Brooklyn with our young son Hart.
